We get the supporters’ view of the 2024/25 season

AGE: 35

CLUB: Gosport Borough

HOW LONG HAVE YOU SUPPORTED YOUR CLUB AND HOW DID YOUR SUPPORT FIRST BEGIN? I've supported the club for three years now, since I moved into the area. I needed my football fix since I stopped playing the game myself through a hip injury. So one wet and windy January I decided to venture down to the club, where I was amazed at how much you could hear the players and managers scream and shout instructions at each other. The atmosphere the fans made was just unreal. We lost that day but I've been hooked ever since, hardly missing a home game and doing plenty on the road to.

HOW WOULD YOU ASSESS THE 2024/25 SEASON FOR YOUR CLUB? My personal target for the team was to finish in the top ten and we ended up 12th. A season which saw us start off with two losses and then go on an incredible run of games which saw us lose only twice more in the League before Christmas. That mixed with fairy tale FA Cup and FA Trophy runs, beating a few teams in higher divisions, everything was all fine and dandy. Then our joint managers left in the New Year and our fortunes began to change. We couldn't string back-to-back results together, but luckily enough we found a bit of form at the end of March to bring us clear of the relegation battle. The season could have been better, but in the grand scheme of things could have been a lot worse.

WHO WAS YOUR CLUB’S BEST PLAYER IN 2024/25 AND WHY? Asher Yearwood. An ever-present in the midfield for us this season and with a keen eye for the goal. He changed so many games for us over the season, which won us several more points than what we would have had without him. My favourite Asher goal of the season came against Hungerford Town at home. He scored a free-kick just before half-time, which ultimately gave us a 1-0 victory. My favourite Asher performance came away to Oxford City in the FA Cup. He not only scored that day, but absolutely tore the higher division team apart.

WHO WERE THE BEST OPPOSING TEAM IN 2024/25? This is a tough one, but overall I have to say Gloucester City. At home on a cold February midweek game under the lights they tore us apart. The scoreline could have been a lot worse than the 3-1 defeat we suffered. They did the exact same thing in the opening 15 minutes in the last game of the season at their ground. Luckily we were able to come back to draw 2-2 that day.

WHO WAS THE BEST OPPOSING PLAYER IN 2024/25? There are so many great players in the division who had impressive individual matches against us, but Leon Maloney played a big part in both wins against us for Havant & Waterlooville and scored an absolute belter on Boxing Day. He is the kind of player I would want in a Gosport Borough shirt.

FAVOURITE AWAY GROUND AND WHY? Wimborne Town. They had brilliant facilities and their clubhouse was amazing - the best and cleanest toilets in the League too! As soon as you arrive at the stadium, there are plenty of people to point you in the right direction to pick up a matchday programme and 50/50 tickets and also to tell you, most importantly, where the bar and food was to be found! Everything about the stadium was clean and tidy. Honourable mention here to Sholing as well. They had a lot of work going on in and around their stadium when we visited yet were very helpful and friendly and I am already looking forward to seeing the improvements next season.

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT IN 2024/25? Chertsey Town away. The weather was miserable that day in the middle of Storm Bert. Credit to the groundsman and staff for getting that game on. We got to Chertsey on the Supporters’ coach early that day and visited several pubs before making our way to the ground. We decided beforehand that we were going to wear wigs that resembled one of our players' hair, Joe Morrison. We began singing several times during the game that his name is a shop and he played for Gosport. Again the weather was awful but our performance on the pitch was anything but. We won comfortably as the players made us proud and sent us home happy. We went back to another pub in Gosport to celebrate into the night! What a memorable away day; the picture to accompany this article is of me on that day.

HOPES FOR 2025/26? To have as much fun as I had last season following the team I love, in what will no doubt be an even tougher Premier South next season.
