WEYMOUTH | REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

Chairman in upbeat mood ahead of new season

Weymouth have returned to the Southern League for the first time since 2028/19 following their relegation from The National League South at the end of last term.

The Dorset club, who have a long association with the Southern League which goes back to the 1920s and includes four title-winning campaigns, spent two seasons at Step 1 during their time away from us and will be part of what is shaping up to be an exciting Premier South in 2025/26.

Manager, Warren Feeney, has already announced the signings of the experienced Reuben Reid, Tom Hewlett and Oakley Hanger, as well as securing the services of a core group from last season.

“There is plenty going on behind-the-scenes,” Chairman, Paul Maitland, told his club’s media. “We’ve got a lot of positive things to announce over the weeks ahead.

“The pitch is looking better than it has done for a few years, the Club Shop is being extended to allow us to increase our range of stock, we’re selling various sponsorship packages and Early Bird season-ticket sales are ahead of where they were this time last season, so that all bodes well.

“In terms of recruitment, we have to be a bit more candid, suffice to say that we are getting things done in a tough market.

“We’ve already been able to announce a few new signings and more will follow. There is some big money being thrown around at the moment and it’s important that we don’t go storming in and blow all of our budget.

“We’re taking a more methodical approach and I’m comfortable with where we’re at right now. There’s a plan in place for where we want to be and we’re not too far away from that as I speak, so there is a lot for us to be positive about on the back of what was a disappointing campaign last season.”

We welcome the Terras back into the fold.
