QUORN | ADMIRING GLANCES

Skipper leading the way into new adventure

There were certainly many admiring glances going the way of Quorn during the course of the 2024/25 season.

Ryan Beswick’s side stormed to the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands title with just one defeat from their 40 League games and 103 points to their name.

They set high standards throughout the campaign, with Reece Fyfe playing the captain’s role to perfection as a well-respected figure both on and off-the-pitch.

“I am so proud of the way in which we went about winning the title last season,” Fyfe told us. “To have a whole team who were willing to dig in and help each other out whilst also displaying tremendous resilience and consistency, speaks volumes.

“It was an exhausting season both mentally and physically, but we did what we needed to do and the results are there for all to see.

“The reward has come with us being placed in the Southern League Premier Central; there are some really mouth-watering games to look forward to and it’s going to be a massive challenge for ‘little old Quorn’, but we’re ready for it.

“We are determined to prove that we deserve to be alongside such company. It’s a big step up, of course, against some well-established sides with strong spending power, but you have to embrace it, prepare as well as possible, take it game-by-game and see where it takes us.

“The aim from our point of view is to be competitive every week. We have to ensure we’re solid and hard to beat and, like the season just gone, build some momentum.

“If we can put in strong performances, show good habits and stick together, then the results will follow.”

Fyfe is close to making 100 appearances for the club. His journey in the game began within the youth ranks at Notts County before moving into the non-League game.

“Over the years I’ve picked up a lot of experience from being involved in non-League football,” he continued. “Not just on the pitch, but in life as well. I’ve had the highs but I’ve also hit the bottom and I’m proud of myself for pulling through and getting back on track.

“Being part of this club is exciting and means so much to me. Nobody expected us to do what we did last season and we want to be the surprise package again this time around.

“We’ve got an incredible group and a Gaffer who is big on work-rate, something that he instilled in us from day one.

“Last season was my best in non-League; being one of the older lads in a young squad, I’ve had to lead by example and alongside the Gaffer, Wilksy and a few others, we achieved what we set out to do.

“Now it’s time to push on and prove we’re capable of doing it at a higher level.”

We welcome Quorn into the Southern League.
