Summer break. What summer break? It’s been all go for Hanwell Town since last season came to a close with their Oliver Connell Community Stadium a hive of activity.
“It’s been an extremely busy time,” CEO Nigel Hunt told us. “As the club continues to grow, so does our reputation... and the workload!
“These are exciting times for us; we’re committed to taking this club forward on and off the pitch and the supporters can see the progress that we’re making.
“Earlier this year we were contacted by the Jamaica FA to use our facilities as a training base for the Unity Cup. Word quickly spread about the high standard of our pitch and soon afterwards, the other three national teams involved in the competition [Nigeria, Trinidad & Tobago and Ghana] also reached out to us.
“Thanks to careful scheduling, we were able to accommodate all the teams — as one departed, another arrived. It was a pleasure hosting each of them, and we’re proud to say they thoroughly enjoyed their time with us. In fact, every team expressed a strong interest in returning in the future.
“Our reputation is now being recognised not only by professional clubs but also by UEFA, who have identified us as a potential training venue for the 2028 European Championships, which is a massive pat on the back to everyone involved here.
“As well as this, as part of our ongoing development, this summer we will be installing 150 additional seats at the stadium alongside our annual sprucing up of the facilities.
“We’re confident that the season ahead will be even more exciting. Behind-the-scenes we will continue to work hard to ensure the long-term sustainability of the club, whilst on the pitch we will be pushing for a place amongst the leading pack.
“Our ambition is to constantly improve in all aspects of the club, while ensuring we are financially secure.
“With the continued support of our fans, partners and the community we believe to future is bright here.”
Hunt has been associated with the club for just over 12 years.
“I initially came here with my son who had just been released by a professional club,” he added. “After meeting the committee and experiencing the positive attitude at the club, I decided to join the management team.
“It’s fair to say that I’ve not looked back since and I am extremely proud of the way in which this club has evolved over the past decade or so. It’s a great story and there are sure to be even more exciting chapters to come.”
