GLOUCESTER CITY | GIVING SOMETHING BACK

Duo looking forward to hosting summer soccer camps

Gloucester City duo Kieran Phillips and Ed Williams will be putting the potential stars of tomorrow through their paces as they lead a series of City Soccer Camps at the Pitching In Southern League Premier South club during the forthcoming summer holidays.

Open to youngsters of all abilities between the ages of five and 11, the camps will take place at the TigerTurf Stadium each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, between 9am and 3pm, starting on July 22nd through to August 28th.

“We can’t wait to start our City Soccer Camps during the summer holidays,” Phillips told us. “It’s something we’ve been planning for a while as a way of bringing the community together and bringing a new generation of Gloucester City fans on board.

“Both Ed and I will be joined by first-team players to take the sessions, which will involve fun football games and matches throughout the day.

“We welcome children of all abilities and tailor the games to everyone. It’s important for us as a club to offer these camps to give parents and carers somewhere to send their children during the holidays where they know they’ll have a good time at a place they are familiar with.”

Having missed out on an immediate return to Step 2 with defeat in the play-off final at the end of last season, City now have a new manager at the helm following the appointment of Daf Williams during the close season.

“Preparations for the new campaign are going well,” added Phillips. “There’s a new manager and new signings are arriving, so we’re all feeling fresh and excited with new ideas and plenty of optimism.

“We’ve had a few sessions now and we can’t wait for the games to start. We know that the League is only going to get stronger this year; there are some good teams involved and we’re going to have to be at it from day one.

“There’s only one aim this season and that’s promotion. We won’t hide from the fact that’s what we need to achieve; we came close last time out and now we hope to go one better.”
