It didn’t take Marlow long to get their Goal of the Season sorted for the 2024/25 campaign.
Just 84 minutes into their opening game of the season, Josh Masters struck a beauty with his left foot that went on to earn the talented left-back, known as Mr. Reliable, the accolade in the end of season awards.
The season went on to prove to be a roller-coaster ride for Masters, who adapted well to the demands of life at Step 3 with some reliable and impressive displays, however, on the down-side, a nasty facial injury sustained in February required surgery as the team ultimately succumbed to relegation.
Now as they prepare for life in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central, Masters has committed to the task ahead as Marlow look to bounce back at the first attempt.
“Things are going well,” he told us. “We’ve been working hard to get ourselves ready for the start of the season and with the new faces that have come into the group over the summer, we’re looking strong for the season ahead.
“The sense of anticipation for the new campaign is building all of the time. There are some new grounds to visit and new opponents to face and I just can’t wait to get going, to be honest.
“I’ve missed being out there involved in the action; pre-season has whetted the appetite even though it’s been extra tough in the hot conditions!
“We know that it’s going to be a tough challenge during the season ahead. As I say, there are a few unknowns in terms of teams we’ve never faced before, but the Gaffer and his staff will have us well prepared and ready to hit the ground running.
“I always like to set high standards for myself. I was pleased with the consistency that I was able to show last term in what was a generally tough season for the team. Now I want to take that into 2025/26 and help ensure that we are in amongst the leading pack and in the top five with regards to fewest goals conceded.
“As a club we know where we belong. We were able to learn so much last year and now our aim is to get back into Step 3 straight away. To do that we have to put in the extra hard graft and I’m certainly ready, willing and able to do that!”
