Long-serving manager, Stuart Henderson, is having to draw upon all of his experience this summer following the departure of several key players from his Tavistock AFC side.
Leading scorer, Liam Prynn, has joined Pitching In Southern League Division One South rivals, Mousehole, alongside skipper, Ed Harrison, whilst goalkeeper, Aaron Dearing has switched to Exmouth Town.
“These things happen, especially at this level, and it’s difficult,” Henderson admitted to his club’s media. “But you just have to get on with it.
“We know that we have to strengthen the group because we’ve lost some key players. It can be frustrating at times, particularly when we’re competing with clubs who have bigger budgets than ours, but we’ll keep plugging away, that’s all we can do.
“We’re looking at all options; we have to cut our cloth accordingly and that means exploring lower levels as well as finding players from outside the immediate area who are willing to travel if it means playing regularly.
“Come the start of the season we’ll be competitive and difficult to beat. Experience tells me that in those early weeks of the campaign, players become available for various reasons and you can get them on better terms than is the case now, so sometimes patience pays.
“The group will continue to evolve over the opening month or so of the season. No stone will be left unturned in our pursuit of adding to the squad for what is sure to be another hard-fought and competitive campaign.
“I’ve been in this game a long time but I always look forward to the challenges that each new season brings.”
