As he continues on the road to recovery from long-term injury, Josh Bissett, has returned ‘home’ by re-joining Mousehole AFC.
The talented performer made half-a-century of appearances for the Cornish outfit across the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, assisting in their rise up the levels before joining Pitching In Southern League Division One South rivals, Bristol Manor Farm, last term.
He began the last campaign in good form before suffering a cruel ACL, MCL and Meniscus tear earlier this year and now he is determined to get back on the pitch at some point this season to help Mousehole put the disappointment of being pipped to the play-off places last term well and truly behind them.
“When I spoke to the Gaffer [Jake Ash] about the possibility of coming back, it was a no-brainer really,” he admitted to us. “At Mousehole, everything is done properly and to the highest standard and with the severity of my injury, I wanted to make sure that I went somewhere which would help me come back better and stronger.
“I was really pleased with how things were going last season and then all of a sudden it all came crashing down with the injury.
“Knowing most of the boys here already also helped in my decision to come back, it’s like family here and I know that I’ll be part of that team environment during my rehab, which is extremely important.
“I’m looking forward to getting behind the boys at the start of the season and being around the group. I think we’ve got a strong squad that can definitely be up there challenging.
“The club has been up there throughout their time at this level and will benefit from that experience as well as using the disappointment felt at the end of last season to make them even more determined this time around.
“Saturday’s FA Cup win and the overall performance will only add to the confidence levels. The team played some really good football and looked solid, which we will need going to Malvern Town, who made the play-off final at the end of last season, for our opening game.
“From a personal point of view, I will be working hard and fully focussed on getting myself fit again, making sure that my knee is the strongest it can be to prevent anything happening again.
“I won’t be trying to rush things too much. Yes, I am desperate to be back out there, but at the same time I know that the road ahead is a long one and I have to listen to the experts and my own body.
“The dream scenario would be to return to action later in the season and then be able to make a positive impact in the final run-in. We shall see how things pan out.”
