BERKHAMSTED | SOLID START FOR MITCHELL

Winning return for Premier South club as summer signing shines

There was a winning return to the Pitching In Southern League Premier South for Berkhamsted at the weekend as they battled out a 1-0 triumph over Bracknell Town.

Playing his part amongst the back-line was Pierce Mitchell, who joined the club over the summer, bringing with him plenty of higher level experience in the process.

“The first game of the season is always one where both teams are going to be at it due to the summer break and a lengthy pre-season,” he told us. “But I think we controlled the game for large periods with a solid shape and kept to the game plan set out for us.

“I loved being back out there with the boys and getting the job done! Saturday’s game only confirmed to me what we are capable of at this level if we continue doing the right things week in, week out.

“We have a brilliant bunch of lads who are a very close group. Over my years of playing in non-League I’ve found that groups of lads like this can give you your most successful and enjoyable seasons.

“I’ve played at this level for the past nine years and every year the standard goes up. Players are more professional, so the speed of the game increases and some of the money being thrown around these days also brings better players to the League.

“I expect no different this season with three or four teams really pulling away at the top, but beyond that, if last year was anything to go by, literally any team outside the top four could beat each other.

“My personal aim is to stay injury-free and play over 40 games. If I can do that, I know that will add a lot of value to the club due to my previous experience at this level.

“When it comes to the team aims, the Gaffer often talks about taking each game at a time and then, of course, doing great prep in the week leading up to each game.

“As such, we haven’t set out a place where we want to finish, but have said we will leave our mark on every team in this league.

“In my opinion, if we continue working hard and doing the right things like we did on Saturday, we will have a successful season!”

Elsewhere, fellow new-boys, Farnham Town, won by the same margin against Hungerford Town, whilst Uxbridge played out a goalless home draw with Dorchester Town. There was an excellent 3-1 away win for Evesham United at Weymouth as Yate Town played out a goalless draw with Sholing.
