Plymouth Parkway’s Ryan Brett, slept soundly in his bed on Saturday night.
Not only did the experienced defender put in a colossal display in the heart of the back-line, but he also got his name on the scoresheet and provided an assist for the winning goal to help his side secure their first victory of the season with a 2-1 triumph over Gloucester City.
“The lads gave absolutely everything out there and we slept well on Saturday night” he told us. “We were made to work extremely hard against strong opponents but we stuck rigidly to the task in hand to get the three points.
“We were battered, bruised and out on our feet in the dressing room at the end, but what a proper team performance it was, with everyone playing their part.
“It was a good to get our first win of the season and we deserved the rewards for the shift that we put in.
“Personally it was a great feeling to find the net with our opener and then play my part in what proved to be decisive goal, but the only thing that mattered on Saturday was getting those first three points on the board.
“Now we need to build on it; we’ve shown what we are capable of and this is the standard that we have to reach each time.
“When we do this, there’s no-one for us to fear, but being successful is all about consistency and in a League as competitive as this, it’s what makes the difference between being in the bottom and top half.
“We’ve played three of the top teams already and given a good account of ourselves on each occasion, so it bodes well.
“We’re looking forward to the next game now and climbing up the table.”
The next Pitching In Southern League Premier South assignment for the Devon outfit is Saturday’s trip to Basingstoke Town.
