Aylesbury United secured their first Pitching In Southern League Division One Central win of the season on Saturday in fine style with a 4-1 triumph at MK Irish to get them up-and-running.
“We’ve done okay over the course of our opening three League games,” said key defender, Charley Tuttle. “As a squad we know what we’re capable of and naturally we feel that we could have done more, but with important players coming back from injury, we feel that we can really kick-on from here.
“From a personal point of view, it’s nice to be back out there; I picked up a bad injury towards the end of last season, which also affected my pre-season, so being able to get minutes into the legs over the past few weeks is doing me good.
“Things came together nicely on Saturday. It was massively important that we got the three points and we’ve worked hard on various aspects of our game in the build-up to the game, including being more clinical, which we certainly were at MK Irish.
“It was good for us as a team to score four very good goals and we have to be able to take the confidence from this into Tuesday’s tough game against Flackwell Heath and beyond as we move forward into the season because, like every year, the League is getting tougher.
“There are some big teams and big budgets at this level now and everyone is capable of beating each other.
“First and foremost our aim is to stay up and then stick together through the good times and the bad to see where it takes us. Our aim is to finish as high as we can and put together a run in the FA Trophy because we know how important it is for the supporters to go far in the national cup competitions.
“Hopefully I can avoid any more injuries and help us keep as many clean sheets as I can whilst chipping in with the odd goal and assist here and there along the way.”
