Malvern Town are currently sitting pretty at the top of the Pitching In Southern League Division One South table having taken 13 points from their opening five League games.
The Worcestershire club have reacted well to the disappointment of their narrow play-off final defeat at the hands of Evesham United at the end of last season.
There were a number of changes over the summer both within the coaching staff and playing squad, with goalkeeper, Seth Locke, one of the new arrivals.
He brings with him plenty of experience at this level in recent seasons and has hit the ground running with some assured displays between the posts, conceding just three League goals so far, including a clean sheet in last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Melksham Town.
“Obviously I was buzzing with the three points and clean sheet last weekend,” he told us. “The team performed well against a strong Melksham Town side.
“We are happy with our points return so far and we’re looking forward to what the rest of the season holds in store for us.
“The boys are brilliant and made life easy settling in. There’s a fantastic spirit around the place and it’s been key to what has been a successful August for us. Hopefully we can now take this on into the month ahead.
“We know only too well that it’s only the start and we have to be able to build on the confidence and momentum we have and take it into September.”
Attention turns to the Isuzu FA Trophy this weekend with a first round qualifying tie at home to Loughborough Students, who have started their Northern Premier League Midlands Division campaign with just one win from six.
“After the disappointment of our early FA Cup exit, it would be nice to go on a run in this competition,” added Locke. “It will be a tough test for us against opponents from another League, so it will be interesting to see how we measure up.
“As for our own League, it’s a tough division this season with some massive clubs in it. We know that it will be a long, hard slog, but we’re up for the challenge and we’re willing to work hard to maintain the high standards that we’ve already set.
“Personally, I want to keep as many clean sheets as possible and keep improving my performance levels as the season goes on.
“As a team we are looking to finish as high as possible, but it is way too early to make predictions! Let’s just keep enjoying our football, take it a game at a time and see where it takes us.”
