FALMOUTH TOWN | RIGHT RESPONSE

There was a big turnaround for Falmouth Town in their double-header with Brixham AFC

What a difference a week makes for Falmouth Town.

Having succumbed to a heavy 5-0 home reverse at the hands of Brixham AFC in the Emirates FA Cup, just seven days later the two teams met once again, this time in the Isuzu FA Trophy as Falmouth chalked up a 4-0 triumph at their Pitching In Southern League Division One South rivals.

“The first match was just one of those freak results that sometimes happens,” Town front-runner, Rubin Wilson, told us. “We just didn’t turn up on the day; we went down to ten men, which didn’t help matters, but credit to Brixham because they came into the game full of confidence and were worthy winners on the day.

“It was good that we had an immediate opportunity to right our wrongs and we went there in the FA Trophy at the weekend even more determined to put on a performance and make it through.

“It was the perfect fixture for us and we took full advantage to secure a commanding 4-0 win bounce back in the best possible way.

“I think you’ve got something to prove when you’re on the wrong end of a big score and credit to the lads for showing the team spirit and doing to them what they did to us.”

The team has only played three League games so far, drawing two of them and losing the other.

“It’s been a steady start,” Wilson added. “Personally I’ve been able to get a few goals in the various competitions we have been involved in and there seems to be a good spirit amongst the group.

“We’ve let a couple of potential wins slip through our grasp with late equalisers, but it’s a learning curve for us. We must not forget that this is only our second season at this level and we know that we have to improve our game management and being able to see matches out better.

“There are some strong and physical teams in this League who will punish your mistakes; hopefully we are getting towards where we can be one of these teams so we can push on and challenge amongst the leading pack.

“Last season we finished ninth, so it would be nice if we can improve upon that this time around, but we are under no illusions about how tough this League is, probably even more so than last season with the teams that have come in to it.

“I want to continue leading from the front. I won’t put a figure on how many goals I’d like to get, but I am always striving for more.”

A trip to Shaftesbury awaits in the second round qualifying of the Isuzu FA Cup later this month.
