EVESHAM UNITED | MAN OF STEELE

Hot-shot celebrates breaking through the 100-appearance mark in the only way he knows how

Having broken through the 100 appearance mark for Evesham United earlier this month, Levi Steele was back doing what he does best at the weekend.

His brace helped the Pitching In Southern League Premier South new-boys chalk up a commanding 5-0 triumph over Tiverton Town and in doing so, he now has 49 goals in his 101 outings.

“The performance on Saturday was brilliant,” Steele told us. “We dominated from start to finish and could have won by an even bigger margin in the end.

“We went into the game on the back of a really positive week of training; we felt that we owed ourselves a performance like that having suffered a few indifferent recently.

“From a personal point of view, I just love scoring goals so to add another two to my tally was a great feeling.

“I’m really proud to have made 100 appearances for the club. It’s a big achievement, particularly in the modern game, and it makes it even more special that I have been able to do it for a club like Evesham United.

“It’s a brilliant place to play my football, with some great people involved here.”

Since securing promotion via the play-offs at the end of last season, the club has made a solid start to life at the higher level, losing just two of their opening ten League games to sit sixth.

“The season so far has gone well,” Steele added. “A few of us had a chat after last season and we all spoke about what our aims were and there’s a few boys who have played Step 3 before, so we knew what we were coming into but we are just taking it game by game at the minute

“This League has always been tough with some big teams in it. There are no easy games and everyone is more than capable of beating each other.

“I am enjoying the challenge that playing at this level brings week in, week out. My target is always to get to 20 League goals, and beyond that, the sky is the limit for this group of players. There’s a lot to look forward to.”

A trip to Berkhamsted is on the agenda for Tuesday evening.
