Callum Watts is a man on a mission this month. As well as giving his all to help Weymouth climb the Pitching In Southern League Premier South table, he is also going to be raising funds and awareness for mental health.
“I’m going to be running 2-5k a day throughout the month to help raise awareness for Mental Health,” he told us. “It’s a cause that is not spoken about enough.
“I’m young and fit and perfectly capable of completing this challenge, so if I can inspire young people whilst I am doing it and also raise much-needed funds and awareness, then I will be happy.
“I’ve got plenty of self-motivation to do this for a cause that is important to me.”
Watts will be raising funds for The Mental Health Foundation, the UK’s charity for everyone’s mental health.
“Prevention is at the heart of everything they do,” he added. “They aim to find and address the sources of mental health problems so that people and communities can thrive.
“They do some fantastic work, but like many other similar organisations, they need to do regular fund-raising to allow them to be able to make their services available to everyone that needs them.
“That’s why I am determined to help and do my bit for the cause.”
Meanwhile, on the pitch the summer signing is determined to get the Dorset club moving in the right direction.
“We know that we’re not where we should be right now,” he added. “We’re working incredibly hard so that we can start moving in the right direction.
“The season so far has been very up and down, but we’ve got a great dressing room here and plenty of team spirit, so I am sure that we can get ourselves into a positive run of results and turn things around.”
