ST. IVES TOWN | GOING WITH THE FLOW

Successful week so far for the Premier Central club

It’s been a successful week for St. Ives Town so far as they followed up their dramatic 3-2 away win at high-flying Spalding United last weekend with another hard-earned and richly-deserved three points on Monday as they beat Banbury United 2-1 in a game that was streamed live on ClubberTV.

The results have left them in eighth place in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central table ahead of Saturday’s home encounter with Needham Market, who arrive just two places and two points above them.

“We were able to secure two brilliant wins in quick succession,” beamed Theo Alexandrou. “Going to Spalding United and becoming the first team to beat them at home this season shows the quality we have in our team.

“The way we did it by scoring two goals in the final 15 minutes to turn the scoreline around also shows the character that we have within the group.

“We put so much into our performance and were deserved winners, so to then go into Monday’s game and put in another battling display, really takes some doing and, once more, we were deserving of the three points that came our way.

“An extremely strong first half set us up for the win and it was another dominant display overall as we continued our unbeaten home run.

“We’re unbeaten in four League games now and in a really good place. As a group we’re really starting to kick-on; we’re in a strong position and excited by what the weeks and months ahead hold in store for us.

“In my opinion, we should be even higher than we are, but we’ll take this all day long! I wasn’t as happy with my own contribution as I wanted to be earlier in the season, but everything is starting to flow now and that’s credit to the staff and team-mates around me.

“It’s a tough and competitive League with some big names involved, as always, but we’re enjoying the challenge. We knew it would be difficult, but we’re going out there and giving it everything we’ve got as well as drawing on the fantastic team spirit that we have here.

“Things are so tight in the table and we’re looking forward to Saturday’s latest test against Needham Market, who are sat just above us in the table. Hopefully we can add to the current run that we’re on.”

As it is International weekend, Saturday's game will also be streamed live on ClubberTV.
