Tulips storm back to the top of the Premier Central with big away win

On a weekend packed with goals, one of the stand-out results saw Spalding United regain top spot in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central in emphatic fashion with a 7-0 away win at Redditch United.

The fact that the home side went into the game inside the top five made the Tulips’ victory even more impressive.

“It was a brilliant win,” said Josh McCammon, who scored the first of five goals in the second half. “Everything just clicked for us; we were clinical when it mattered, and professional defensively.

“Having been out injured for the past 8-9 weeks, it felt great to be back playing with the boys and, of course, I am thrilled to play my part with a goal and assist.

“It was a statement win, but we have not done anything differently here than we do in any other game.

“We have an excellent squad of players that apply the right attitude week in, week out. We play to win and play to our strengths, just like everyone else, and are only ever focused on the next fixture.

“As a team, I think we are coming along nicely. Inevitably there have been results that haven’t gone our way, but we don’t dwell on them and make sure we put it right at the next opportunity.

“For me personally, I was playing well before my injury. I was injured in the FA Cup win against Dagenham & Redbridge, so I was disappointed to not be available for the next tie against South Shields. Every player hates being injured, so I’m glad to be back on the pitch again.

“This is a tough League with plenty of good teams and players involved. There will be plenty of clubs up there challenging at the top come the end of the season. I won promotion from this League previously with Peterborough Sports and it takes some doing.

“As a team, our target remains the same as it was at the beginning of the campaign; to gain as many points as possible. I hope to help the team as much as I can in that regard, hopefully with a few more goals and assists!”

A run of successive home games that leads into the New Year, begins with the visit of Leiston at the weekend.
