Sporting Club Inkberrow are continuing to enjoy the journey that they are on.
As we enter the month of December, the Pitching In Southern League Division One South club, who have risen from Step 7 in recent years, sit just inside the top ten.
They picked up their seventh win of the season on Saturday courtesy of a commanding 3-0 triumph over Bristol Manor Farm, with Jack Tolley notching two of the goals.
“The team performance was brilliant,” Tolley told us. “I think we showed what we are ultimately about as a team and how we try and play.
“We defended well as a unit and were able to express ourselves and use our strength’s in forward areas to try and get something from the game, which showed in the way we scored our three goals.
“A busy schedule of matches lies ahead and we are looking to build on this now. We have our goals and ambitions in the changing room and we know what we want from one another.
“It’s cliché, but we always try to take one game at a time and see where it can take us. Some of this group have been together since the club were at Step 7, so we are enjoying the journey, while also understanding we have a job to do and an opportunity to keep climbing the table with the points we collect.
“Even though we currently find ourselves just inside the top ten, I would say that it has been a mixed season so far. Earlier in the season, we were on the wrong end of some results that weren’t deserved based on our performances because we had to learn that you need to be more ruthless in both boxes at this level.
“It’s been a learning curve, but things are gradually starting to get to where we want them to be and results are slowly beginning to reflect how we are playing and what we want to achieve in this League.
“From a personal point of view, while I would like to have a few more goals to my name, it’s always good to get a few goals and assists under the belt in the first half of the season to give yourself the foundation to kick on in the New Year.
“The League has been good for us as a group. We’ve learned quickly and other than maybe one game, we’ve competed well in all of them, so by no means have we been out of our depth.
“For the boys in the group that haven’t played this level before, they’ve adapted unbelievably well and are more than comfortable. For the boys that have played this level or higher, it’s been a new challenge that they’ve had to deal with.
“It’s a tough League to play in with things like travelling and physicality factored in. Each team has an identity of play and every week offers a new challenge, but it’s one we are enjoying and thriving off.”
A tough test awaits at Frome Town on Saturday.
