It’s been a frustrating start to the season for Enfield and Alex Georgiou.
Since arriving at the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central outfit in the autumn, niggling injuries have halted his progress and meant that Saturday’s outing in the win at Rayners Lane was only his second game for the club.
Saturday’s 3-1 triumph was only their third taste of victory from 20 League games and they were brought crashing back down to earth with a 6-0 loss at Hitchin Town on Tuesday night, but Georgiou is hoping that the busy schedule ahead will represent a fresh start for him and the team.
“We needed that win on Saturday,” he told us. “We were solid and stuck to the plan whilst working extremely hard.
“I felt good out there, much sharper than I have done and I was happy to assist for our second goal early in the second half, which put us ahead.
“The main thing was getting the result, something that we must do against those teams that are in and around us in the table if we are to start climbing the table.
“We have to be able to build on the positives; there are so many games coming up and it’s about keeping our standards high and staying focussed on the task in hand.
“It’s not been the best of starts to the season for the team, we all know that, and there is plenty of hard work going on to get us moving in the right direction.
“Personally it has been very stop-start due to a few small injuries, which has made it frustrating, but Saturday was my second game for the club and I am ready to kick on now and build some consistency.
“This League is so competitive. We know that we can compete and reach the high levels that are needed; we have to be able to prove it on a consistent basis and the run of games ahead gives us the opportunity to do that.
“As we look to the New Year, I want to be able to settle in and build some momentum in my performance levels so that I can become an important player for the team, whilst collectively the target is to be more consistent and the best version of ourselves that we can be.”
Another key home game lies ahead at the weekend with the visit of Milton Keynes Irish.
