A 2-0 away victory made it three wins from the last four games for Bideford AFC at the weekend as they continue to move up the Pitching In Southern League Division One South table.
Amongst the scorers in Saturday’s success at Westbury United was Jack Winsor, who has recently broken through the 100 appearance milestone for the Devon club.
It’s a far cry from when he first arrived at The Sports Ground as a raw youngster on loan from Torquay United in 2022.
Since then he has become a mainstay of the team around short spells with Wellington and Tavistock AFC and this term he has really come of age with some assured and commanding displays, which have also yielded a couple of goals recently.
“I’m very proud to have reached 100 appearances for the club,” he told us. “I’ve really enjoyed the last few seasons here.
“In terms of highlights, I always look back on certain games where we have won against the odds. Bishops Cleeve away last season quickly springs to mind where we played the majority of the game with ten men and then grabbed a last minute winner.
“Bristol Manor Farm away is another one where we came back from two goals down to win 3-2. These are the games that make it all worthwhile.
“The run that we had in the second half of last season was also great to be part of. We built some real momentum and there was a good, positive buzz around the squad, something that we’re looking to repeat this time around.
“We know that with the quality we have here, ideally we should have picked up more wins than we have so far. But there have been signs that things are starting to click into place and if we can get ourselves on a bit of a run like last year, it will make a big difference because things are so tight in Division One South this season.
“It’s a tough League, as always, with no easy games and each team posing its own challenges. For us to go to a team just outside the play-off places and bring home all three points and a clean sheet shows what we can do.
“From a personal point of view, I am always learning from those around me, be it the management team or the senior players. I’ve been happy with some of my all-round performances so far and want to be able to build on these as we head into the New Year.
“The aim for myself and the team is to keep working hard, continue to improve and move forward. We’re more than capable of doing that and I am looking forward to being part of it at a club that means so much to me.”
