Having won just two of their opening 18 games in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South, Tiverton Town made it successive victories on Saturday as they beat local rivals, Taunton Town, 2-1 to follow up an away triumph, by the same scoreline, at Plymouth Parkway in their previous outing.
Opening the scoring at the weekend with a well-struck goal was Jacob Wellington, who went on to put in a Man of the Match display.
“It was the performance from the whole team that was the most important thing for me,” he told us. “As a group, we stuck together; even when Taunton went level, we didn’t drop our heads and kept going, which led us to the second goal and three more points.
“I’m buzzing to get a goal and play my part in the win. Hopefully more goals will follow for me now.
“To make it two wins in a row was fantastic and has done our confidence the power of good. We’re looking to continue pushing forward as a team now and continue to add to our points tally.
“These last two games have given us plenty of belief so we’ll see where this can take us.
“It’s been a season of ups and downs so far and we know that we have to keep battling and working hard. Maybe some of the luck that evaded us during the first half of the season will now start to go our way?
“From a personal point of view I am enjoying the challenge that the step up has presented to me and I will certainly benefit from the experience.
“The target is to get ourselves out of the relegation zone and everyone’s focus is firmly fixed on that objective. I want to be able to play my part by establishing a regular starting place and weighing in with goals and assists.”
This weekend sees Wellington and his team-mates hit the road as they head to Chertsey Town looking to extend their winning run.
