Stratford Town won for the sixth time in a row at the weekend to leave them just a point off the top five in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central.
It’s a far cry from what was a tough start to the season as the Bards battled out a 1-0 victory over Redditch United to create a new club record for successive victories in the Southern League.
“We’re just taking things one game at a time,” said manager, Paul Davis. “We’re not looking a records and that kind of thing; once one game finishes, our focus is firmly fixed on the next. That’s the way we operate here.
“It’s nice to be getting the momentum that winning football matches brings. Going into the last game we spoke about how important it would be in both boxes and whoever did best in these areas would come out on top and so it proved.
“It was a tight game and not the prettiest, but at this stage of the season, it’s all about winning and we were able to do that.
“We had people on our bench who were capable of changing the dynamic of the game and it’s that what ultimately gave us the edge.
“It shows the strength we have amongst the group now and it’s something which will stand us in good stead for the battles that lie ahead.
“We’ve been good for the past month/six weeks now, but we hadn’t kept a clean sheet for 12 games until Saturday, so this is something we need to build on and take into our forthcoming matches.
“Our next game sees us once more face opponents who sit just above us in the table, so it’s an opportunity to leapfrog Needham Market. They’ve not played for three weeks, so we’re hoping that they’re a bit stale because we know only too well what a good side they can be.
“It’s never an easy place to go to, but another win would put us into a great position in the middle of January.”
