After ten weeks out with a dislocated and broken shoulder, Finn Howell was delighted to get his first full 90 minutes under his belt since the injury on Saturday.
The loanee, who returned to Redditch United from Solihull Moors last month, couldn’t have written the script any better as he found the net to help his team to a big three points against play-off rivals, Halesowen Town, a result which saw them leapfrog their neighbours to sit fifth in the Pitching In South League Premier Central table.
“It was a massive performance from the whole group,” Howell told us. “It was a game that we desperately wanted to get a positive result in. Every single one of the lads and the staff worked hard to secure a deserved three points.
“To be able to get 90 minutes in the tank was fantastic. The worst part of football is being injured; I think most players would say the same. I just had to keep motivated whilst I was sidelined, working hard every day to come back in good shape and ready to hit the ground running.
“It’s important not let injury get you down too much. Now I am excited for the run-in; we are certainly more than capable of being right up there come the end of the season.
“It’s a very unpredictable League bust also very enjoyable to play in. It’s tight at the top, which makes it even better as it’s competitive every single week.
“We are looking to keep moving in the right direction. Our aim is to finish as high as possible and hopefully that will mean being involved in the end of season shake-up.”
Redditch’s latest test this weekend comes in the shape of a Kettering Town outfit who are starting to find some form as they look to make a surge for a place in the top five.
