Ten wins and just one loss from their last 15 games has thrust Chertsey Town into the top five in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South.
It’s a remarkable achievement for which manager, Toby Little, who took over at the helm earlier in the season, has been rewarded with a contract extension through to the end of the 2027/28 season.
“I am delighted to commit to the club for the next two seasons,” said Little after putting pen to paper. “The recent form that we have enjoyed has been cultivated by the togetherness and determination that runs throughout the club.
“I would like to thank the club for trusting in me; we all share the same vision as to where we want to take this fantastic club and we’re doing all we can to achieve those objectives.
“It’s an exciting time for us, but at the same time we know that there is plenty of hard work ahead of us if we are to be able to build on the solid foundations that we have put in place over the past few months.
“There are no easy games in this League and they can change in an instant. But we’re doing the right things and playing with confidence and momentum, the magic formula to winning football matches.
“We’ve got match-winners throughout the group and this will stand us in good stead for the challenges ahead.
“I’d say that we have 15 or 16 players here who are Step 3 players and that in itself gives us options and the ability to be able to rotate.
“Given where we are as a club, the run that we’ve been on is no mean feat. There have been times where we’ve had to dig deep, such as Tuesday’s victory over Taunton Town, and other occasions where we’ve showed exactly what we’re capable of.
“We have so much belief in each other; I said after only a few games in charge that this was a play-off team and now we have put ourselves into a position where we can make this happen.
“There will be twists and turns ahead, we know that, but can we keep this momentum going for the final nine games? I believe we can.”
Saturday sees Little take his team to Sholing, who sit one place and three points below them with a game in hand. Whilst nothing will be decided by the result, it will prove to be a key encounter in the battle to make the top five that both clubs are currently involved in.
