Aylesbury United did their survival hopes the power of good last weekend as they ran out 10-1 winners at already-relegated Rayners Lane.
They now find themselves eight points clear of the bottom four with five big games left to play.
Amongst the plethora of scorers in their last outing was Finlay Reeves.
“Saturday’s game was a bit of a weird one,” Reeves told us. “We went into the game not knowing what to expect.
“Despite the fact that they have already had relegation confirmed, they still managed to give Thame United a good game in their previous outing, but we started the game strongly, got an early goal and then the confidence built from there.
“We were very clinical; we managed to get ourselves seven goals up at half-time and then made it to double figures by the end. There’s always room for improvement, though, and we reflected upon that at the end as we prepare for the tough Easter weekend ahead.
“For me personally, coming into a Step 4 environment has been challenging, but also enthralling. I think I’ve managed the step up quite well; I’ve just been focused on scoring goals and helping the club remain at this level as it’s where it belongs.
“Overall results-wise, it has been up and down but we’ve done well to be where we are now, we’ve fought for each other and the vibe within the squad is really positive and we’re hoping to get a few more results before the season ends.
“This league is so exciting and unpredictable; results can genuinely go either way every week. I think that gives every team confidence going into each game week and that makes fixtures competitive and exciting to watch.
“You have to fight hard for every point. Another thing I’ve been so impressed by is the fans of each team; they are so passionate and have a genuine love for their team. It’s great to see and always good to play in front of.
“A main target of mine going into these final five games is to reach double figures in goals. Currently I’m only two away, so fingers crossed I can reach it! It will be a proud moment for me considering I only took the step up six months ago.
“As a team, the obvious goal is to avoid relegation and remain a Step 4 team. We’ve worked hard to pick up the results we have and be where we are, so as a team we can only keep doing that for the remaining fixtures.
“This club is special and the fans deserve to see us competing again next season, which I am sure we will be.”
The Easter weekend sees them host Barton Rovers on Good Friday before heading to play-off chasing Thame United on Easter Monday.
Following that, on Saturday, 11 April, they welcome Stotfold in what has been designated as Legends Day.
The club and their Supporters Trust (21CD) have joined forces to host this commemorative event to honour the individuals who have helped to shape the club’s long and proud history.
The event offers a unique opportunity for fans to reconnect with their heroes and share in the club’s storied past. There will be an opportunity for fans to not only meet the legends but a fascinating memorabilia exhibition will be on display, which will tell the story of the Ducks.
“This Legends Day is a defining moment for our club as we strengthen our commitment to the local area,” said a spokesperson for 21CD. “We invite everyone from lifelong ‘Ducks’ fans to families looking for a great Saturday out to join us as we celebrate our history and look toward a bright future together.”
