Sam Argent opened the scoring as Basingstoke won back-to-back games for the first time this season over Gosport Borough.
Argent and Sam Deadfield were on the scoresheet as the home side finished their bank holiday weekend with two victories from two.
Within just five minutes, George Bennett whipped the ball to Argent who headed into the back of the net.
Colm McAdden was called into action after Craig McAllister toe poked it towards goal, but a strong hand pushed it wide.
McAdden was under pressure again when Ryan Pennery got through but once again the keeper got the better of the away sides forwards.
Deadfield doubled the score line after good work from Sam Smart down the wing. His low cross found the attacking midfielder who took a touch and watched the keeper and defender go down as he lifted it over them with a composed finish.
The away side got a goal back just before half time, when Pennery got behind the defence and lifted the ball over the oncoming McAdden.
Shane Hollamby made what turned out to be a game saving block. McAdden collided with the Gosport forward who got past the keeper but Hollamby made his way around and threw himself in front of the shot who blocked the shot and set the ball over the bar.
There was a goal mouth scramble around the hour mark with the ball being repelled from the goal as Argent, Hollamby and Smart couldn’t get on the end of it.
A quick corner from Dean Stow caught out the opposition but Dan Bayliss near post flick went just wide.
The final chance of the game fell to Argent who, after good work from Deadfield, smashed the bar. The forwards shot was deflected onto the woodwork from close range.
Both side tired in the second half as Basingstoke had played Frome just two days before in their 4-1 win.
