Nuneaton Borough’s assistant manager, Dale Belford, says it just isn’t coming together for the club at the moment after Saturday’s 2-0 disappointing defeat against Biggleswade Town.
Goals in either half by Kyjuon Marsh-Brown and Matt Ball condemned Boro to their fourth away defeat in a row and Dale spoke to Josh Holland following the defeat.
‘It just isn’t coming together really. We signed players who we thought would be at the top end of the league, but unfortunately, we are nowhere near where we want to be’.
He continued, ‘We’ve had a couple of sporadic results and performances, but as a whole, we are underachieving at the moment and it has to change’.
Dale gave his verdict as to why it isn’t really working for Boro so far this season.
‘We just haven’t got the blend right, we’ve got very good individual players, but the best individual players don’t always win the league.
‘For me, we are struggling to find the right formula to make it click and unfortunately, it’s another performance where we have restricted them (Biggleswade) to two or three chances and not really created anything ourselves’.
Being just one goal behind for the majority of the second half, Boro did pile the pressure on Biggleswade. However, there was never a real threat of grabbing an equaliser.
Dale added ‘I think we started the second half well, but if I’m being honest, we never looked like we were going to score and that really worries me. With the team we have, we are becoming a side who looks like they won’t score from open play.’
‘At 2-0, we are chasing the game and if I’m honest we never looked like we were going to come back at all’.
There were three debutants for Boro, with Jordan Wright, Michael Richens and Mitchel Candlin making their first appearances for the club and Dale identified their performances as a positive for the future.
