Match Report

Redditch United v Biggleswade Town

The Waders completed the double over the league’s bottom team with a comfortable win at The Trico Stadium.

After three postponements, the Waders were guaranteed a game on the artificial surface at Redditch. The team showed one change from the last game at Needham Market, Shane Bush coming in for Kweku Lucan, who was nowhere to be seen.

The first half was a tepid affair with neither side creating a lot. Redditch started the better of the two teams and James Lucas had a shot pushed wide by Kyle Forster but efforts on goal by Benjamin Birch and Gratias Katega were both well wide of the target. For the Waders, Trey Charles had a couple of shots blocked and they finished the half on top with shots by Shane Bush and Charles both blocked on the line.

Manager Chris Nunn worked his half-time magic and within 5 minutes of the re-start the Waders were ahead, and what a goal it was. Slick passing down the right-wing between Devante Stanley and Charles resulted in Stanley setting up Charles, whose first time shot flew into the net. From this point on the Waders were well on top with good efforts from Dylan Williams, Charlie Pattison and two more from Charles, the second of which rattled the crossbar. During this period, only a shot from Lucas, which went just over the bar, worried the Waders supporters.

On 77 minutes, the Waders made the game safe when Bush laid the ball off for James Peters to fire home, a fitting reward for a solid performance from Peters throughout the match.

The back five of Forster, Stanley, Corey Panter, Lewis Ferrell, and Drew Richardson saw the rest of the game out without alarm to register a third clean sheet in a row for the new look Waders defence.

Manager Nunn celebrated with the Green Army at the end of the game and well he might do. Not only has he come in and steadied the ship after the sudden departure of the previous manager, but he has put together a competitive side in a short space of time and, in his three league games in charge, he has three wins and three clean sheets. It doesn’t get a lot better than that. There will obviously be setbacks in the future but, for now, everyone associated with the Club are looking to the future with optimism.
