Sholing v Bideford Town
Bideford threw away a two-goal lead on Saturday as Sholing came from behind to win 3-2 in the league at the Mackoy Stadium.
The Robins raced into a two-nil lead as Ryan Turner struck twice in the opening seven minutes of the game. With less than a minute on the clock, Turner was found by a Stephen Reed cross and curled a shot past Ryan Gosney into the far corner of the net. His second came in the 7th minute after Theo Simpson’s shot appeared to strike a Sholing hand in the box but amidst the appeals, Turner stabbed the ball home in a crowded penalty area.
As is so often the case Bideford conceded twice in quick succession as Sholing pulled themselves level. First Jamie Bulpitt played a through pass to find Stuart Green who shot low across Liam Kingston into the net. Then just three minutes later Green found Lee Wort who drove forward and cut inside before finishing well for the equaliser. If not for a good save from Kingston to deny Dan Mason one-on-one it could’ve been even worse for The Robins before half time.
In the second half, Simpson went mightily close to putting Bideford in front after going through on goal but seeing his low shot rebound back off the post. At the other end, Kingston tipped a Brad Targett strike over the bar and Wort headed a cross off the top of the crossbar just before the hour.
Both sides had half-chances in the final twenty minutes but it was Sholing who would then find a winning goal to complete their comeback in the 83rd minute. Mason charged down a clearance and was able to reach the ball to send in a dangerous cross which Green finished well in the middle.
It’s now five straight defeats for Bideford and nine defeats in their last ten games so Sean Joyce’s men will need to work out a way to stop this worrying slide before the visit of Evesham United on the 2nd November.
