Sholing v Larkhall Athletic
It’s been a great couple of weeks for the Larks with a home win against Cirencester Town, followed by a decent 2-2 draw at home to Melksham who had gained a 2-0 lead in the first half, and culminating in a hard-won 1-0 victory away at Slimbridge midweek.
The Larks’ good run of form continued today away at Sholing, against whom we had never scored, let alone won. Indeed, for a while it looked like our bad luck was to continue when a defensive error allowed Sholing striker Brad Targett to justify his name and put the home side ahead after only 7 minutes.
The Larks rallied, though, and consistent pressure in the Sholing area led to Lewis Powell being upended and a penalty being awarded, which our top scorer fired home decisively.
At 1-1 at half time we knew we’d have a job on our hands, but new signing Tom Hillman made that job easier by latching onto a fine cross from Alex Lambert and heading past Ryan Gosney to give us the advantage only moments after the restart.
Sholing’s cause was not helped when forward Dan Mason received a second yellow in what was turning into a fractious half, reducing the home side to ten men. The Larks played their advantage and controlled the game well to see out a long-awaited win against the Boatman.
