Slimbridge v Cirencester Town
Cirencester Town boss Charlie Griffin says his players are eager to get back on the pitch as they look to rediscover some form when they take on local rivals Slimbridge this weekend.
The Centurions have lost their last two Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South games while last Saturday's game against Larkhall Athletic was postponed.
One of four games to go ahead last weekend was Slimbridge's 2-0 defeat to Cirencester's play-off rivals Evesham United.
Griffin is still wary of Slimbridge's threats but is keen to claim local bragging rights and try to get back on track in the fight for the playoffs.
“We’re champing at the bit to play," said Griffin.
“It’ll be a tough game, they’ve been competitive in the last few weeks and have been close to getting results.
“They came to us earlier in the season and played really well.
“It’s a local derby as well so there are bragging rights and no one wants to lose derbies.
“They played (at weekend) and we’ve had the game watched so we know what to expect but we have to go in with the right attitude."
Cirencester's last game was a 3-2 defeat to Winchester City on Saturday, January 26.
They went there with a depleted squad due to injury and suspension.
Players were due to return against Larkhall but the week off has benefitted Cirencester further as Griffin confirmed he has a fully fit squad.
“We’d have had four players back last Saturday but we’ll have five back now," he revealed.
"They're fit and ready to go which is the main thing, we've had two sessions and we look forward to Saturday now."
Cirencester are fifth in the table and occupy the last available playoff spot.
Sixth place AFC Totton are level on points with the Centurions while Winchester are just a point behind in seventh.
Cinderford Town and Melksham Town are also hot on their heals as they're only two points adrift so Cirencester can't afford any more slip-ups.
Griffin isn't concerned though and is confident they'll be able to get back on track.
“The lads all believe in what we do," he said.
"Two bad results doesn’t make you a bad team overnight but they know what they’ve got to do.
“There are 14 games to go and everyone has to play each other this weekend so someone will drop points so it’s about trying to get ahead."
