Highworth Town claimed their first Southern League Division One South win of the season on Wednesday night with a 4-2 success at Slimbridge. Jeff Roberts’ side went down 1-0 at home to Frome Town in Saturday’s season opener but have not had to wait long to get off the mark this term. The Worthians were forced to come from behind to claim the points as Slimbridge led 2-0 at half-time courtesy of goals from Dion Chambers and Myron Turner.
Roberts sent his troops out fired up after the break and it took them just six minutes of the second half to draw level as goals from TJ Bohane and Steve Robertson restored parity. Darren Jeffries then put Highworth ahead with 15 minutes to play before Toumani Sidibe made the points safe with a fourth goal in the closing stages.
Manager Roberts said: “After the disappointment of losing on Saturday, we started Wednesday’s game really slowly. We seemed a little bit stagnant in the first half. “We had a chat at half-time and said we needed to buck up our ideas a little bit. Full credit to the boys, they came out in the second half and scored within a couple of minutes. “That gave us a bit of a burst of energy and we got another quick goal to get back level and we didn’t look back from there.
