MANAGER Lee Spalding says Swindon Supermarine have nothing to fear against high-flying Metropolitan Police as they look to make it three Southern League Premier Division South wins on the bounce this weekend.

Second-placed Police are guaranteed of a playoff position come to the end of the season, and even have a slim chance of being crowned champions – although they are seven points adrift of leaders Weymouth with four games to go.

Marine has only put together a three-match winning run in the league once before this term, but Spalding sees no reason why his side cannot follow up recent victories of Walton Casuals and Kings Langley with another on Saturday.

The South Marston side were 2-0 winners when the two teams met in the reverse fixture back in August, so Spalding has no doubt they are capable of repeating the feat at the Webbswood Stadium.

“It’s going to be a tough test for us – Met Police are a good side and they are not in second place by luck,” said Spalding

“They have had a good season and have proved by their position that they are one of the top sides in the league.

“But when we perform to the level we did last Saturday at Kings Langley, we are more than a match for any team. The aim is to get to that level again.

“If we can repeat that sort of form, I think we have got a great chance of really testing them.

“Met Police are a team we have beaten already this season, although their current form shows they’ve improved since then.

“They will be looking to make sure they head into the playoffs in top form, but we want to finish the season strongly ourselves.”

Marine’s recent six-point haul has boosted their chance of a top-10 finish in their first season back at Southern League Premier level.

Spalding’s side are ninth in the standings, although a cluster of six teams around them are separated by only three points.
