Penalty shoot-out prevailed

Yate Town boss Paul Britton was "delighted" with his side’s defensive shape as they progressed through to the play-off final with a 5-4 penalty shootout win over Moneyfields last night.

Olly Mehew had put Yate ahead in the 100th minute of extra time, but Moneyfields responded almost immediately through Gary Austin, sending the game to penalties.

Britton felt his side were more themselves and was particularly pleased with their how they defended collectively although he was frustrated that they conceded another goal so soon after they scored.

"We're brilliant at it, we do it on a regular basis," he joked. "Our defensive display was much better, so I’m very pleased with that.

“We've spoken about the defensive shape quite a lot and we brought Ross Grimshaw back in who’s been at Chipping Sodbury, and he was excellent tonight, so as a defensive unit they were much better".

Mehew, David Sims-Burgess, Adam Price, Ross Langworthy and Captain Nick Peare all converted their spot kicks after Austin missed the away side’s first kick.

Britton admitted that you'll struggle to find a better set of penalties in a shootout than his side produced.

"That's how you win a penalty shootout to be fair, five great penalties".
