BLACKFIELD AND LANGLEY FC have extended their lead at the top of Southern League Division One (South) to four points, with just three games left to play.
The Watersiders comprehensively beat second-placed Yate Town 4-1, putting a massive dent in the home side’s title hopes.
Visitors Blackfield were dominant throughout and deservedly took the lead in the 27th minute through Liam Robinson after a mix-up in the box following a Rudi Plummer cross.
The Bluebells equalised in the second half through Jack Twyman, only for the energetic Plummer to latch onto a Robinson cross and crash the leveller home from close range just a minute later.
Striker Plummer then made sure of victory in the last couple of minutes, after a quick counter-attack, he applied a low finish into the bottom corner of the net beyond Carey.
Bearwish then made it 4-1 applying the finish after Plummer’s effort was saved.
This Saturday Blackfield & Langley are home to Evesham and Yate are away to Cinderford Town. Should the Watersiders win and Yate lose, Blackfield would be crowned League Champions.
On Easter Monday, Blackfield travel to play-off hopefuls Winchester City, before their final game of the season at home to the virtually relegated Barnstable Town on Saturday 27th April.
