Odubade praises Wimborne striker Toby Holmes

Yemi Odubade was full of praise for Wimborne Town’s Toby Holmes for his goalscoring exploits, ahead of Weymouth’s trip to the Magpies on Saturday.

Holmes is joint-top at the summit of the goalscoring charts with Odubade’s teammate Brandon Goodship, with both strikers having plundered a remarkable 29 league goals so far this season.

Odubade said: “You have got to be a good player if you are scoring over 25 goals in a season, no matter what league it is.

“Toby has done that and so has Goody so I think there will be a lot of people going down to see how they perform individually and how both teams get on as well.”

Weymouth will be heading to the Magpies after a five-game spell that could not have gone much better.

The Terras are back at the top of the table thanks to results elsewhere and can push themselves four points clear at the summit if a game in hand over Taunton is won.

Odubade reflected: “It is (going well) at the moment, we are not getting too ahead of ourselves, we have still got a lot of work to do and a lot of games to win. But we are just taking it a game at a time as you can only do.

“But obviously we have got Wimborne which is, first of all, going to be a difficult game.

“It is not going to be easy but all we can do is concentrate on ourselves and focus on what we are good at and keep going.”

When asked if the squad are talking much of the table, Odubade said the squad knows things can change very quickly.

Odubade said: “I think we have got enough experience in that team to know that things can change with the drop of the hat. It is what we do on and off the pitch that will put us in good stead for the rest of the season.”

Odubade scored in the 3-0 win against Hendon on Saturday, hitting the second, and Odubade said: “It is always tricky when it is 1-0 and the other team are trying to get that goal, they are going to have chances at any level. Teams are always going to have chances but luckily we did get that second goal.”
