DORCHESTER Town boss Callum Brooks believes winning against Evo-Stik Southern Premier South relegation rivals Walton Casuals could have a “huge swing” on the table standings.

Brooks has led an impressive recovery from Dorchester in just three games. Seven points from a possible nine have lifted the Magpies from the drop zone to 15th, with Walton in 17th.

Casuals, who also play on a 3G surface, lie three points behind Dorchester and Brooks is aware a victory could help put daylight between his side and relegation peril.

He told Echosport: “It’s so tight down there that it’s not just putting daylight between us and Walton, it’s putting daylight between us and the relegation zone.

“So, winning that type of game can have a huge swing and a huge impact on the table. It’s one we’re looking forward to, one we’re ready for and I’m sure we’ll give another good account of ourselves.”

Dorchester and Casuals are both unbeaten in four games, although the Magpies have taken eight points to the Stags’ six.

Brooks said: “It’s two teams in good form, another 3G pitch, so it’ll be a good game of football.

“I’m doing some homework and as ever I’ll be finding out as much as I can about Walton. At the same time, we’ve had another week to get our group into the best shape possible.

We’ve embedded further ideas, further patterns of how we like to play.

“It’s been a positive week, we’ll try and end it well and we’ll go up there in good spirits. The players and my staff will give it absolutely everything. If we come away with three points – absolutely fantastic.”

Magpies’ striker Richard Gillespie confirmed his retirement from football in midweek and Brooks paid tribute to the former Poole hitman – the duo having worked together when winning the Southern League title in 2016.

“He’s a fantastic player and he’s also a top, top man. He’s a good person. From my point of view, it’s unfortunate that I never got to work with him at Dorchester.
