Match Report - Melksham Town 6 - Slimbridge AFC 3

Opening day thriller in Wiltshire as Melksham and Slimbridge get their League campaigns underway...

Newly appointed management duo Richard Fey and Nathan Rudge began their campaign at Melksham with a action packed 6-3 victory ,fielding no less than six players in the starting line up making their competitive debut for the home side .

In a frenetic first half the visitors took the lead after 2 minutes when Myron Taylor scored from close range before Melksham’s Luke Ballinger equalised after 18 minutes with a well placed effort before Callum Demkiv put the home side 2-1 ahead on 25 minutes reacting quickest to a loose ball.

Melksham’s Jack Ball expertly lobbed the visiting keeper from 30 yards to put Melksham 3-1 ahead on 28 minutes before Slimbridge’s Rhys Sarsons superb 25 yard volley put the visitors back in the game narrowing the deficit leaving the game finely poised at 3-2 at the break .

The opening period of the second half saw both teams cancel each other out until the last 10 minutes saw a return to the goal action .

On 80 minutes home skipper Tom Warren capped a fine performance when powered home a Ballinger corner to put Melksham 4-2 ahead .

Melksham went 5-2 up when Oscar Latas rifled home from 25 yards on 84 minutes before Ballinger grabbed his second of the game two minutes later and the home sides sixth when caressing the ball home after a flowing move .

The visitors pulled back a consolation goal in the last minute when Jamie Martin coolly slotted home to leave the final score at 6-3 to the home side .
