The opening minutes of the match saw little action in either penalty area as both sides largely cancelled each other out.
The game continued to be a scrappy affair and both defences were on top to nullify any attacking threat. As the half progressed Mangotsfield picked up a couple of yellow cards but Thatcham were unable to take advantage of the set pieces and an even first half ended goalless. Mangotsfield had a great chance just after half time. A dangerous left-wing cross was headed just wide at the back post by James Ollis.
Thatcham opened the scoring on 49 minutes. Centre back Matt Day still forward from a corner controlled a low cross in the box, he was allowed to turn and fired a shot high into the roof of the net.
Thatcham started to dominate possession and deservedly doubled their lead on 60 minutes. A fluent passing move involving George Jeacock and Scott Rees was finished off by Felipe Barcelos who lifted the ball over the keeper from close range. Mangotsfield were limited to efforts from distance as the rhythm of the game slowed with substitutes coming on for both sides.
Thatcham were able to comfortably see out the last quarter of the game for another valuable three points to keep pace at the top of the table.
