Match Report

Larkhall Athletic v Thatcham Town

Larkhall made a fast start to the game, moving the ball quickly. With only 4 minutes on the clock, a dipping drive was tipped over the bar by Thatcham keeper Paul Strudley. From the resulting corner, Thatcham was unable to clear, allowing Alexander Lambert to scramble home from close range to give Larkhall the lead.

Larkhall continued to play the better football but it was a Thatcham mistake that led to the second goal. Matt Partridge miss-controlled a cross-field pass allowing Lambert to race through and calmly finish low into the corner, with the ball going in off the post.

Thatcham came out a different side in the second half, almost straight from kick-off substitute Kyle Tooze thought he had won a penalty after going over the keeper in the box, only for the referee to overturn his decision after consulting the linesman with a free-kick being given to Thatcham for an earlier foul in the build-up.

Thatcham continued to look threatening but their chances of pulling a goal back were dealt a blow with 15 minutes remaining when Sam Barder was given his marching orders after being shown a second yellow card. Thatcham were leaving big spaces at the back as they continued to push forward but Larkhall was unable to capitalise missing several chances on the break. The Larkhall defence held firm for the final 10 minutes to claim a 2-0 win
