Owen Howe’s 94th-minute penalty put the seal on a fine win for Bristol Manor Farm and the final 3-0 scoreline better emphasised the home sides dominance throughout this Bank Holiday Monday local derby fixture.
In the second half Manor Farm came close on a number of occasions to add to their 2-0 halftime lead but it wasn’t to be until the fourth minute of injury time that they extended their advantage and clinched the three points comfortably.
Manor Farm took the lead after just 5 minutes when Owen Howe ghosted into the inside left channel to connect with a sweet chip over the heads of the back four by Dean Stamp before hitting a smart drive back across Erik Edge into the Slimbridge goal.
Seven minutes later Slimbridge was breached again, this time by a wonderful floated cross-field pass by man-of-the-match Ashley Kington, right to left, that cleared the head of the right-back Luke Payne and landed invitingly at the feet of Dean Stamp who took a controlling touch before volleying fiercely past Edge for 2-0.
With Manor Farm in control and the experienced Ashley Kington running things in the centre of midfield, The Portwaymen could easily have added to their early goals with Stamp going close twice – heading a good cross by Jordan Metters just over the bar on 20 minutes and linking up brilliantly with Troy Simpson two minutes before the break and hitting a rasping drive that beat Edge’s outstretched dive but whistled inches high and wide of the upright.
Stamp went close again just past the hour mark when more great build-up play ended with Kington dinking a delightful ball to him at the far post that the Farm number 9 volleyed – Van Bastenesque – just over the bar.
Five minutes later Jordan Metters forced a fine save out of Edge at his near post after great Farm link-up play had carved the Slimbridge defence open once again.
Three minutes from time Owen Howe produced a sublime chest and first time volley that rattled the Slimbridge crossbar but Farm were not to be denied their third when deep into stoppage time Stamp was hauled to the ground and up stepped Howe to rocket his spot-kick high into the roof of the net for his third penalty and well- deserved the fifth goal of the season.
