Huge cup upset ?

A trip up for A1 for the Saints, awaiting them York City FC

Sam Collins - York City Caretaker Manager

City host St Ives Town who are currently eighth in the Evo-Stik League South Premier Division Central - one tier below MANarama National League North.

Speaking to the media this lunchtime, Collins called for a repeat of the performance that saw North West Counties League Premier Division side Ashton Athletic beaten 5-0 in the second qualifying round two weeks ago.

"When we played Ashton we put on a really strong performance and managed to get a few goals that gave individuals confidence and then we took that into the next game against Guiseley," he said. "That is something we want to try and do again tomorrow.

"It will be a tough game, it's not going to be easy," he stressed. "But, if we are 'at it' and everyone is professional in their jobs and we do the right things with the preparation, hopefully, we can have a good day."

Manager Ricky Marheineke St Ives Town Manager

An occasion to remember - regardless of the result.

Saints have reached the third qualifying round of the famous competition for the first time in their 131-year history and travel to former Football League club York City

And while Marheineke is targeting a giant-killing success against their National League North hosts, he has also ordered his players to savour every second of the experience at Bootham Crescent in a fixture expected to attract an attendance of around 2,000 people.

“It’s a massive occasion for everyone involved with St Ives Town Football Club - the chairman and directors, the staff, the players and of course the fans - and it’s going to be a day that we’ll all remember.

“This group of players have already created a piece of club history by getting to this stage of the competition and we’re all determined to do our best to keep the run going.

“It’s clearly going to be a massive ask to win the game, but we’ll go there with no pressure on us and I know for a fact that my young and fearless team are looking to cause a huge cup upset.
