FA Cup Preview- The Underdogs?

Stockport County v Corby Town

Can we cause an upset?

Jim Gannon Stockport County Manager

The old conundrum of which is more important between the cup and the league comes up too. Jim tells Chris, isn’t as simple as ranking one over the other:
“The FA Cup and Corby Town is our priority because they’re the team we have to play next. Ultimately we’re not going to be remembered by how we do in the FA Cup, but it’s important we get a win and then go on to the league and get a win the following week”.

“They’ve got a couple of experienced players who have played in the league. They’ve earned the right to be here” says Jim on the weekend’s opposition.
“They’re in the groove in the FA Cup they’ll be looking forward to showing how good they are”.

Steve Kinniburgh Corby Town Manager

We believe Corby Town’s Emirates FA Cup clash at Stockport County is one of the biggest games in the club’s recent history. It promises to be a big day for the Steelmen as they step out in front of a big crowd at Edgeley Park against a team from two levels above them in the third qualifying round. A large following is expected to travel up the M6 to back Kinniburgh’s in-form team as they bid to move a step closer to the first round proper. And while the manager knows it is a “big day out” for the club, he insists his players must focus on the opportunity in front of them.

The Steelmen are bang in form having made an unbeaten start to the Evo-Stik League South Division One Central campaign while also making progress in the Buildbase FA Trophy as well as the FA Cup. Now they are eyeing up an upset against the Vanarama National League North side and Kinniburgh said: “It’s obviously a big day out for the club, it’s probably one of the biggest games in Corby’s recent history and I think everyone will be going up there to enjoy the occasion. “We will have a good number of fans going up to watch us and I think that just further shows that people are getting behind this team, which is great. “But because of how we have been this season and how we are going at the moment with our current form, I think it is also an opportunity for us.
