Cambridge City 'naive at the back' against Dunstable

Lillywhites had looked to be cruising to back to back victories

Neil Midgley has accused his Cambridge City side of being defensively naive in their 3-3 draw with Dunstable Town in Southern One Central.

The Lilywhites looked to be cruising to consecutive wins for the first time since October, with goals from Keano Robinson and Josh Oyinsan putting them 2-0 up within 20 minutes.

Dunstable pegged a goal back from Chris Wreh, son of the former Arsenal striker of the same name, to make it 2-1 at the break.

A mixture of contentious penalty decisions and poor finishing didn’t help the Lilywhites'cause in the second half, and sure enough, the game turned on its head with Erin Amu and Alex Taylor scoring within three minutes of each other to make it 3-2 with just over 10 minutes to go.

A late Robinson goal ensured the points were shared, though, and Midgley admitted his side should have been out of sight.

“I know we’ve got the character, but we should have been better,” he said.

“Looking at both boxes, our defensive play has been naive. We’ve got young players, but they’re in the team as they know how to win games.

"At the other end of the pitch, we should have been out of sight. We had one or two penalty shouts, but we won’t use that an excuse.”
