Dorchester Town boss Steve Thompson believes Magpies fans can “play a big role” during a “massive” Evo-Stik Southern Premier South clash with Gosport Borough at the Clayson Stadium
With results in midweek sucking Dorchester into 19th, one place and one point above Tiverton in the first relegation spot, Thompson has stressed that every three points are crucial.
Gosport are also lurking in the lower reaches of the table, currently occupying 17th – just one point ahead of Dorchester having played one game more.
A victory could have huge ramifications for either team, and the importance of the fixture is not lost on Thompson, whose troops have won two of their last three home games.
He told Echosport: “The fans can always play a big role in any game. Players’ confidence is an important thing and fans can always help with that by supporting and encouraging.
“Every three points is massive. They’re all massive at the moment, for us and for other teams as well.
“It will probably go like this to the end of the season with teams competing to get out of (relegation danger) and with teams jumping above each other.
“Any team that can put a run together now can be in a much better situation.”
Thompson was also hopeful of continuing the Magpies’ improved home form.
He said: “It’s an important game and we have turned the home form around a little bit.
“We had an ideal opportunity with Harrow, Frome and Staines at home.
I’d have liked to have picked up more than six points but at least we got something – we have to pick up points.”
