Robbie Nightingale has warned his Cambridge City players that they are all playing for their futures following a disappointing season.
An astonishing merry-go-round of playing staff means only four of the senior players who started the season with the club are still there, with 15 players signed during the campaign and the same number leaving.
The latest arrivals saw Lee Watkins and Oli Shakleton arrive on loan from Cambridge United and Peterborough United respectively, and Max Booth sign on dual registration from Chelmsford City.
All three made their debuts on Saturday but weren’t able to prevent City go down 2-0 at home to Berkhamsted, leaving them 13th in Southern One Central.
There’s been a lot of changes in personnel, but we’ve got one eye on next season,” said the City boss. “We’ve got to start putting performances in, and that will dictate who stays and who goes.
“We want people who will play for the shirt and put their bodies on the line. We’re Cambridge City - we don’t want to be mid-table in Division One of the Southern League.
“We’re not a million miles away from being a good side, but we’ve chopped and changed all season trying to find the right formula in certain key positions.
“We know what we’re looking for and have identified a number of targets, but the commitment levels have also been disappointing - we want a group who are committed and want to succeed.
