#SFL Weekend Review - Premier South

Out-of-Form Peacocks Lose Somerset Derby

Taunton Town has hit a bad dip in form which has seen their lead at the top of the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division South whittled away and now overtaken by Weymouth.
The Peacocks were beaten 2-0 by second-bottom Frome Town in the Somerset derby, while the Terras were held to a 0-0 draw in their derby at Wimborne Town.

A crowd of 697 at The W+S Stadium saw the Terras achieve a hard-earned point in horrific conditions.

They weren`t much better at The Special Effect Stadium where a match full of incident, saw second-bottom Frome take a two-goal lead within 8 minutes from Troy Simpson and Tom Mehew against Taunton and, despite playing with ten men for the whole of the second half, defended doggedly to maintain the scoreline.

Frome was reduced to ten men on the stroke of half-time when Ricky Scott was shown a rather unfortunate straight red card when he caught Pierce Mitchell who had stoop low to head the ball.

Metropolitan Police are right in the title hunt after they won 1-0 at Imber Court against surprise top-five contender, Kings Langley.

The only goal came 6 minutes before the break from Luke Robertson to lift the Met level on points with Taunton with a game in hand.

Salisbury are a place and a point further back now after suffering a 2-0 defeat at Ladysmead by lower mid-table Tiverton Town.

The Yellows` top scorer Levi Landricombe bagged both of the goals after 50 and 75 minutes.

There is a nine-point gap between now fourth-placed Salisbury and fifth-placed Poole Town, despite the Dolphins winning 3-1 at Tatnam against mid-table Merthyr Town.

The Martyrs led through a 7th minute Kieran Lewis effort, but the hosts turned around 2-1 up, thanks to Jez Bedford after 21 minutes and Jake Smeeton 4 minutes later.

James Constable ensured there was no comeback when he added the Dolphins` third in the 87th minute.

Harrow Borough`s top five hopes took a blow as they were beaten 3-0 by in-form Hartley Wintney.

All three goals came in a 12-minute spell either side of half-time from Salhin Abubakar, Michael Campbell and Jack Ball.

Already-relegated Staines Town took their goals-against column to 120 after losing 5-2 at Wheatsheaf Park to a Hendon side who are not yet out of trouble themselves.

It was 4-0 at the break with goals from Connor Calcutt with two, Luke Tingey and Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick from the penalty spot.

Matty Harriott made it a nap hand 10 minutes into the second half, with Andy Juett and Lewis Lavender bagging a couple of consolation efforts for the hosts.

Third-bottom Gosport Borough was held to a 0-0 draw at Privett Park by fellow strugglers Walton Casuals, but both Basingstoke Town and Beaconsfield Town suffered bad defeats to leave them both just a point above the bottom three.

Basingstoke lost 4-1 at the Avenue Stadium to another side in the bottom half, Dorchester Town, who are now four points clear of `Stoke.

Aaron Rodriguez after 14 minutes put the Magpies in front, only for a Callum Rose own goal to restore parity for the visitors on the half-hour mark.

A second for Rodriguez 10 minutes after the break and then a brace from Ben Seymour on 66 minutes – from the spot – and then 89th minute killed Basingstoke`s challenge.

Beaconsfield suffered a 4-0 loss at the WebbsWood by ninth-placed Swindon Supermarine.

Ryan Campbell bagged a brace in the 13th and 18th minutes, with Conor McDonagh making it 3-0 just after half-time and Stuart Fleetwood wrapping things up 8 minutes from time.

The other game saw Chesham United`s 14-game unbeaten run come to an end at the Meadow against Farnborough, who are now eighth.

Harry Cooksley`s 70th-minute penalty separated the sides.
