Since their formation in 2011 AFC has looked to build their club on solid foundations, with a large
following and well-grounded personnel behind the scenes which is the right recipe for that to
happen.
Currently occupying a playoff position they will be looking this season to take one of the
promotion places via the playoffs a big ask some will say but I’m sure they will be confident as we
enter the business end of the season to achieve that.
We have encountered each other on 3occasions two of which were in an epic fa cup tie whereupon
we were leading 2-0 with only minutes to go for AFC to score twice finishing the match all square.
We did win a hard-fought replay 1-0 Brady Hickey getting the winner. Earlier in the season a 1-1 draw
was the result in our only league fixture.
We managed to get back to winning ways 2 weeks ago away to St Ives, for once in what seems a long
time our winner came with virtually the last play of the game, Henry Eze scoring to make it 2-1 with
a bullet header, those 3 points have helped immensely in our quest for survival, most agree we have
not been playing badly but we know its results that we need for our safety.
Two new signings made their debut in the St Ives match former Barwell player Sam Hollis along with
new recruit Sam Preston, however, we have lost the services of Brad Gasgoine to Basford United
being blunt we could not financially compete to keep him here, we wish him well and I’m sure we will
give a big welcome for their home debuts to the new lads.
