Stratford Town win the City Security Services Ltd League Challenge Cup

A 1-0 win over Cinderford Town secures silverware for The Town. Gary Clarke, Chairman of City Security Services presented the trophy to the winning captain James Fry.

Stratford who started the brighter of the two sides with only the woodwork preventing them from taking the lead a third way through the first half as Wilson Carvalho’s dipping free-kick from all of 25 yards cannoned off the near post and away from danger.

The woodwork was struck once again minutes later as Sebbeh-Njie played in Dan Creaney whose curling effort from ten yards out bounced back off the opposite post.

It took until the 30th minute for Cinderford to get their first shot on goal, but Josh Hunt could only send it over the bar from 30 yards out before Craig Norman headed over Sheehan’s free-kick a couple of minutes later.

Cinderford began to take control of possession and needed a smart save from Stratford keeper Ross Etheridge to deny Richard Greaves’ glancing header from Sheehan’s free-kick from finding the bottom corner.

After the restart, despite Cinderford starting the better of the two sides, Stratford had the ball in the net when Nabill Shariff found the bottom corner but was ruled out for offside. Town got the all-important goal in the 61st minute when Kyan Isaac was on hand to slot home from a square ball from Wilson Carvalho.

The visitors came close to levelling the scores in the 67th minute, but Hunt could only send his header wide of the far post. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Sheehan’s delivery was claimed by Etheridge and the resulting boot up the pitch brought the full-time whistle to confirm Stratford Town as winners.
