Play-Off Final
“Having played Corby Town three times already this season, it shapes up to be a very tight and close encounter.
“Both teams have scored at will this season, with their goal tally breaching 100, so I’m sure the supporters will be in for a football feast between two good, attacking sides – that said, it’s obvious the team that defends better will progress.
“We certainly didn’t see ourselves in this position when we began the campaign last August, but when we went our first eight games unbeaten and playing as well as we did in those opening games, I thought to myself that we could do something in this division.
“Credit to the players for setting a standard and maintaining it for the majority of the season – finishing 10 points ahead of an established Step Four side like Corby is an achievement in itself and now we are one win away from Step Three, it’s an opportunity myself, my staff and our players want to take.
“As a newly promoted side, we have been competitive and conservative; competitive in our performances and conservative is our resources, and it has worked extremely well.
“Mike (Burke) and the board have been fantastic to myself, Andy and the players and the fact we finished in second is brilliant, considering some of the other budgets in the division that we have had to compete with.
“So on and off the pitch, we have had a productive season, which is pleasing.”
“The results and performances have been pleasing, but we would not have done all that without our 12th Man.
“The fans, the Sporting faithful, have been incredible and hopefully on Monday, the whole town will join forces with our regulars and spur us onto a victory.
“It’s a massive game that will take the perfect amount of application, work rate, desire, mentality, quality and, of course, that will to win to gain the positive result we all want.
“The squad looks strong again; we have a few knocks which should be okay, but are sweating on Charlie Dowd’s fitness following his substitution through injury on Wednesday.
“As always, we will give everything we have in order to make sure our supporters go home happy.
